Florida Healthy Babies Initiative

The Florida Healthy Babies Initiative (FHBI) is a state-wide effort to address high rates of infant mortality at the county-level. In Citrus County the infant mortality rate has recently risen 41% to 8.2 infant deaths per 1,000 live births in the county. Twenty-five infant deaths occurred between 2013 and 2015, with ten of these deaths occurring in the 2015 alone.

We have several upcoming meetings scheduled to review the data and develop a work plan to address the maternal and infant health factors influencing infant mortality. These meetings are open to anyone with an interest in helping our moms and babies be as healthy as possible.

Florida Healthy Babies Meetings

  • Thursday, September 15th: workshop to identify priorities and develop work plan
  • Tuesday, September 27th: review and finalize workplan
