The Florida Department of Health can issue birth certificates for people born in Florida from 1930 to the present. Birth certificates for people born in Florida in the years prior to 1930 must be obtained from the State Office of Vital Statistics in Jacksonville, Florida.
Birth certificates are needed for:
- Admission to public school
- Getting a driver's license
- Work permits
- Registering to vote
- Eligibility for retirement
- Social Security benefits
- Proving citizenship
- Obtaining public assistance for dependent children
Birth certificates can be issued to:

- Individual 18 years of age or older, with proper identification
- Legal guardians

The Vital Statistics Office in Lecanto is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Include the following information:
- A photocopy of your driver's license for identification
- Name of child
- Date of birth and county of birth
- Mother's maiden name and father's name
- Relationship to the person on the birth certificate
